School is almost done and summer is about ready to start. My tomato plants are getting a little leggy and are ready to be put into the ground. This year I’m growing Brandywine, Red lightning, Baxter Bush, Super Steak, and Better Boy tomatoes. Way more then I’ll ever use, but thats alright. I can give away or compost what ever I don’t use.

Last night’s South Park was all about Stan getting sucked into Facebook. Haha, I couldn’t agree more with Stan. Also the Tron references were great. I’ve tried to get into Facebook, but I can’t do it. It’s just too lame. Thankfully in 6 months everyone will be on Friendster or some other lame site. I’m sure I’ll make a profile for those sites that I’ll never update or go on either. P.S. If your reading this please visit my Facebook farm and fertilize my crops. Please!!

I’m doing a stop motion project for school and I’m thinking about doing it on the fictional character Major Tom. I didn’t realize that Peter Schilling’s Major Tom was the same character that David Bowie created for his songs. So I have a really good idea, but we will see how it all comes together.

I started making my own worm castings this year. It’s a lot of fun plus I can’t think of anything better for your plants than fresh worm castings. Before I add the worm casting to my planting mix I screen the compost through 1/4″ screen. Here are a couple of pictures of my bin and of the compost inside. Read the rest of this entry »

This year I have almost zero room to start or grow plants. The balcony I plan to grow on is partly shaded by a giant oak tree. So tomatoes are out of the picture this year. Not a big deal considering there is a farmers market stand every summer about two blocks away from where I live. So this year I’m going to focus on flowers and a couple of herbs I like to cook with. I haven’t really tried very hard to grow flowers before. I did last year but, it was a total after thought. I didn’t pay much attention to them. This year I think it’s about all I’m going to be able to grow. So now I’m in the R&D stage of the game. I have to find out what kind of flowers will do well on my balcony and what types of soils and nutrients they like.
I plan on harvesting some worm castings soon, probably in a couple weeks, so I will have lots of pictures on my blog. Maybe even some video so everyone can see the worms wiggling around.

The link on the top of the page is for my Instructables.com page. It’s a recipe for some really easy, affordable, good beef stew. If I had one word to describe the explosion of flavor on your taste-buds it would be “yummers!“
